The Tampa, Fla.-based health information management (HIM) division of HCTec’s business has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by General Healthcare Resources (GHR) of Dallas in a transaction that is expected to close within 75 days. This transaction has no effect on the healthcare IT (HIT) and Managed Services businesses which continue to operate under HCTec.

HCTec was founded in greater Nashville with a focus in healthcare IT, helping hospital systems install, optimize and support key clinical and business applications. As part of another acquisition several years ago, HCTec added the HIM business line as a complement to its core HIT capabilities.

The success and growth of HCTec’s HIM business attracted outside buyers like GHR seeking to grow their footprint. GHR is a healthcare recruitment agency that provides behavioral health, healthcare IT, travel nurse and educational personnel in healthcare and human services environments. The transaction is beneficial for both organizations as GHR will add clinical expertise and resources to the HIM team. At the same time, the transition enables HCTec to solidify its position in the market as a pure-play HIT and managed services organization.
